Description
Each lowercase letter is cut from fine sandpaper and mounted on a smooth board, blue for vowels and red for consonants. The child traces the letter with two fingers while saying its sound, linking the sound, the shape and the movement of writing.
The direct aim is to connect the sound of a letter to its symbol through touch; the indirect aim is preparation for handwriting and for reading, since the hand learns the letter before the pencil does.
Presented in small groups of letters, with a box that keeps the boards together. Like all our materials, it is sourced and quality-checked by Montessori for Kenya for use in AMI/AMS-aligned classrooms, home environments and teacher training settings across Kenya.
