Description
Cylinder Block 4 is one of the four knobbed cylinder blocks. Ten cylinders, each with a small knob, are removed and returned to matching holes, and in this block the cylinders vary in both diameter and height, in the opposite direction (they get thinner as they get taller).
The direct aim is visual discrimination of dimension; the indirect aims are the pincer grip needed for holding a pencil, concentration, and preparation for mathematics through grading and comparison. The material is self-correcting: a cylinder in the wrong hole leaves one left over.
Use the blocks one at a time, then together as the complete set of four. Like all our materials, it is sourced and quality-checked by Montessori for Kenya for use in AMI/AMS-aligned classrooms, home environments and teacher training settings across Kenya.
